April was an exciting month for Pinked! For those who recall our Maryland theme to our October event last year, I believe it was the start of something significant in the life of this little non-profit ministry. Since that event, it has been on my heart to expand the support we provide to the Pink Warriors of Maryland in a new and relevant way. Recently, I was introduced to Christy Asonglefac, DPT as someone who was willing to volunteer her time to Pinked Perspective. Christy is a physical therapist and fitness coach in Annapolis, MD who specializes in treatment for those facing or recovering from breast cancer surgery and treatment. Her skills boosted by her passion to serve this community of local breast cancer survivors with empowering knowledge so easily fits with the mission and goals I was hoping to achieve. Last week, we launched our inaugural “Empower Hour” workshop with the intention of bringing local survivors together in order that Dr. Asonglefac might provide education and help those recovering to regain function. It is our hope to continue offering these workshops throughout the area on a quarterly basis, at least. We would love for this program to be something that many local breast cancer survivors can utilize. ~Kara Christy Asonglefac has a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and has taken extensive coursework to build an expertise in working with women with a history of breast cancer. As a Certified Lymphedema Therapist for the Upper Extremity and fitness professional, Christy has utilized her knowledge in “movement as medicine” to help women regain function and strength after a breast cancer diagnosis. Christy additionally served as a member of the Medical Advisory Board and was the mobility doctor and Coach for a nonprofit, Barbells for Boobs, whose main mission was to provide fitness and exercise resources to women with a breast cancer history. Pinked Update: Speaking of baseball…this weekend brought an exciting opportunity to lead a group of baseball players from Crofton High School in Kit Assembly. It was definitely a first to have 20 young men serving together this way. And what a treat to hang out with these awesome baseball moms too! Up next for Kit Assembly is the Cancer Awareness Club at our local Broadneck High School. So excited for a week of introducing students to service with Pinked Perspective! As always, we can use your support for our Kit Assembly gatherings by volunteering to host one or simply by shopping our Amazon Wishlist which was recently updated and ships directly to us.
