Happy First Monday! Didn’t realize #SuperMonday was a thing but we are certainly feeling #SuperMonday today and wishing for full coffee mugs for all this morning. What a fun game!
We are really excited to share this February update with you all! Just over a year ago, our Board of Directors met to discuss ideas for growing the presence of Pinked Perspective amongst warriors in our local community and beyond. Aggressive goals were made; and we are thrilled to share that these goals were not only met but in many cases were exceeded beyond all expectations!
The number of kits provided to Pink Warriors in 2019 increased by 133% compared to those sent in 2018. Kit assembly parties of all shapes and sizes were held throughout the year to keep up with the growing demand for care packages. Even a group of elementary students from a local school assembled kits as one of their monthly service projects. Our annual Think Pink event in October saw more than 250 people in attendance! Despite the exponential growth we experienced this past year, we still pray that each and every kit we deliver makes an individual impact on the recipient. No two breast cancer patients will share identical journeys, but we strive to provide a community of hope and assurance for each and every one along the way.
“You made me realize that there was something bigger and stronger than cancer, and that is LOVE. I can’t thank you enough for what you have done to pull me and my family through the last year. You made the worst year of my life also the best.” – Amy, Kit recipient and Pink Warrior
Last month our Board of Directors met again, this time to set the vision for 2020. As the demand for kits increases, our focus in 2020 will show an increased dedication to fundraising. Planning for Think Pink 2020 is already underway as we consider our growing space requirements. We hope to continue developing bonds with our new friends from the Bosom Buddies and the Flamingo Flock, two local organizations that are also dedicated to supporting those diagnosed with breast cancer.
A growing ministry means growing financial needs. Did you know that the 25% of the costs related to kit assembly and delivery are attributable to shipping? In our current Amazon-centric climate it is often easy to forget that it does indeed cost money to transport goods from one place to another! And, speaking of Amazon, you can always check out our Amazon Wishlist for our current needs with respect to kit supplies or Donate toward the increased shipping cost of $15.05 for every Medium FlatRate box we ship.
February Sewing Needs:
We are forever grateful for our volunteers who are integral in helping us control our costs to procure kits. We are currently in need of assistance with sewing flannel wraps. These seemingly simple pieces of fabric are nearly universally loved amongst all kit recipients. A patient recovering from mastectomy surgery is often extremely sensitive to textures touching their skin. The soft flannel wrap acts as a buffer between the surgical site and their clothing. If you have the gift of sewing to offer, we would love to get you everything you need to get some sewing of these flannel wraps underway!
