I have mentioned a few times before here, here, here and here (oh and here) the way my husband took such amazing care of me during every phase of my diagnosis and treatment. From that grievous first meeting with Dr. Tafra and Nurse Amy when he asked all the right questions that I was too shocked to even formulate. To the weeks after surgery that he faithfully emptied my nasty drains. To the first chemo when he stayed with me all night in the ER and then got ready the next morning to report to his 10-hour workday.
As I think back on the whole ordeal, to say he was my Rock is an understatement. It is likely that there is someone that is providing that daily, rock-like support for your Pink Warrior friend. It might be you in which case I hope there will be someone reading this that will take care of you. But if it is a spouse or some other family member or friend, consider how you {or your spouse} might meet that person at their greatest need. For my husband, he had a group of guys, friends with whom we had been in community for long time, take him out to a local sports bar to hang out. This wasn’t much time away but it was a welcome break from his newfound obligations at home. My husband never complained about his obligations but I know it wasn’t easy as he carried the brunt of the load during those days. It was a huge blessing to me to see others caring for him the way they did.
