This past Saturday, Pinked Perspective hosted the 2nd Annual Think Pink Family Fun Run/Walk and Breakfast in the Park at Broadneck Park in Annapolis, MD. The hope is that this would be our main fundraising event for the year and happen every first Saturday of October {So please mark your calendars for October 3, 2015!}
There are many ways to raise funds and different kinds of events we could plan but a Run/Walk and Breakfast in the Park is my choice for several reasons:
- When I was diagnosed, I was working as a physical therapist at Arundel Physical Therapy and Fitness with a uniquely wonderful group of people. They formed a team, Kara’s Krew that would participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Hunt Valley, MD complete with t-shirts designed to display my journey verse on the back. There actually isn’t enough space or time right now to describe how much it meant that my APTF family came together to support me in that way. Not to mention the impact it had on me as a nauseous, bald chemo patient to be among so many other people who were also touched by breast cancer in some way. It inspired me to keep fighting, no doubt. Below is a pic of the original Kara’s Krew from October 2011.
- I love exercise! Don’t get me wrong, a lot of times I hate exercise. But I love the way it makes me feel. After all it is kinda my job to be an advocate of it. I know there is power in being able to accomplish something physical that you might not normally do or think you can do. So if the Think Pink Run/Walk motivates people and gives them a goal each year, that would make me so happy.
- I love breakfast! Hands down, my favorite meal of the day. Love coffee, love Panera’s pink ribbon bagels, love Chick-fil-a breakfast–a fundraising event with my name attached must include these things!
This year’s event far exceeded my expectations in attendance, as well as the donations collected. We can’t say thank you enough! The following Flipagram is a peek into the fun morning we all had together. {View this post on the website if you are trying to view the Flipagram} If there are those you love that are walking through breast cancer, we would love for you to join us at the 3rd Annual Think Pink Family Fun Run/Walk and Breakfast in the Park to let them know they will never walk alone.
